Kate Stanley

Kate Stanley is Associate Professor of English at the University of Western Ontario, where she teaches courses on American literature, philosophy, and culture. She is the author of Practices of Surprise in American Literature After Emerson (Cambridge UP 2018) which was shortlisted for the First Book Prize by the Modernist Studies Association. She is currently at work on a project about pragmatism and pedagogy, which is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is editor of “The Discipline” forum at Modernism/modernity Print Plus and her essays and reviews have appeared in American Literary History, Modernism/modernity, Criticism, The Henry James Review, Women’s Studies Quarterly, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and The Palgrave Handbook of Affect Studies and Textual Criticism.
