The Reverend Doctor Gilles Mongeau was born in Montreal and raised in Ottawa. He has been a Jesuit for over 30 years, and a priest for close to 20 years. In 2003, he obtained the doctorate in theology from Regis College and the University of Toronto, as well as the licence in theology from Regis College. His areas of expertise are the systematic theology of Saint Thomas Aquinas and the spiritual theology of Saint Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits.
In addition to his academic qualifications, Fr. Gilles has worked in parish ministry, university chaplaincy, hospital chaplaincy and retreat and spiritual direction ministries. He spent 10 years in ministry to people living with HIV and AIDS, and more recently has accompanied LGBTQ+ Catholics on their faith journey. Until last summer, he supervised the formation of ordained and lay ministers in the Church. In August 2018, he was appointed Socius (Adjunct or Associate) to the Provincial Superior of the Jesuits of Canada.
