Charles A. Gillespie is assistant professor in the Department of Catholic Studies at Sacred Heart University where he also serves as director of the Pioneer Journey. Charlie’s research, writing, and teaching press against disciplinary boundaries by investigating the interplay of theologies, the arts, and culture. He has a particular focus on the Catholic intellectual tradition (especially Hans Urs von Balthasar), critical theories of creation, interpretation, and beauty, and theatre and performance studies. Because Charlie is also a theatre-maker, he believes the best scholarship and art emerge from collaboration: for instance, he is a member of the John Moriarty Institute for Ecology and Spirituality (www.johnmoriartyinstitute.ie) and considers the Dramatic Humanities in conversation with the Untitled Othello Project (www.untitledothello.com). Charlie is currently working on a monograph, God on Broadway, with Fortress Press.
