John Casey earned a PhD in philosophy at Loyola University Chicago (2002), with a dissertation on medieval theories of intentional relations. He has taught in various places, including Cedar Rapids and Rome, Italy. He is now associate professor of philosophy at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) in Chicago, where teaches courses on logic, critical thinking, and history of philosophy. He maintains a research interest in medieval philosophy, though he now works mainly in argumentation studies. He has two major projects in the works. The first is a logical and critical reasoning text that takes into account recent advances in argumentation theory. The second is a volume, with Scott Aikin, on the Straw Man fallacy (Bloomsbury). He and Scott also maintain a blog, TheNonSequitur.com, which serves as a kind of sandbox for work on argumentation and fallacy theory
