Jason S. Sexton is a lecturer in the Honors Department at California State University, Fullerton. His research focuses at the intellectual crossroads of theology and culture focusing on the nature of the church’s confession in its ecclesial contexts and in its variegated shapes in society. He is working on a number of projects related to the intersection of theology, criminology, penal theory, and informal community governance theory to develop a theological account of the church incarcerate, as well as a theological reading of Western prisons, and especially the California Department of Corrections. He teaches a popular intensive course in prison religion at Whittier College, and is the author of “Toward a Theology of California’s Ecclesia Incarcerate,” Theology 118.2 (Mar/Apr 2015).
