Hannah W. Matis is associate professor of church history at Virginia Theological Seminary, an Episcopal seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. By training she is a medieval historian, specializing primarily in the history of biblical interpretation and monasticism in the Carolingian reform, but interested in broader questions concerning how patristic thought was transmitted to the early medieval world.  She is the author of The Song of Songs in the Early Middle Ages.
