Ayşe Zarakol is Reader in International Relations at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow at Emmanuel College. Dr. Zarakol works on the evolution of East and West relations in the international order, hierarchies in world politics, and the politics of non-Western regional powers. She is the author of After Defeat: How the East Learned to Live with the West (Cambridge University Press, 2011), and the editor of Hierarchies in World Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2017). She is currently finishing up a book manuscript titled Before Europe: Rise and Fall of World Orders, under contract with Cambridge University Press.
