Alex Benson is Assistant Professor of Literature at Bard College. He specializes in American literatures, with a focus on the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and with active research projects primarily situated in sound studies and in extinction studies. He has published articles in the journals Narrative, Leviathan, Small Axe, and Criticism, and is completing a book on the problem of transcription in the histories of American literature and ethnography.
