Educated in Classics (Copenhagen University, 1974) and ancient and modern philosophy (Oxford, 1974-76), Troels Engberg-Pedersen’s first doctoral dissertation (Dr. Phil.) addressed Aristotle’s ethics (1982). He then wrote on Stoic ethics (1990), and his second doctoral dissertation (Dr. Theol.) addressed Paul and Stoicism (2000). Until his retirement (at 67) in 2016 he was Professor of the New Testament at Copenhagen University. His research has focused on ancient philosophy, not least Stoicism, and the New Testament.
