Sr. Ann Astel: Ann W. Astell (PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. Prior to her appointment at Notre Dame, she was Professor of English at Purdue University, where she taught 1988-2007. She is the author of six books and the editor or co-editor of seven volumes, most recently Saving Fear in Christian Spirituality (U of ND Press, 2019). The writing of her 2006 book, Eating Beauty: The Eucharist and the Spiritual Arts of the Middle Ages (2006), was supported by a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial fellowship in Religion. She is past president of the Colloquium on Violence and Religion and of the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality.
